What is burnout anyway?

“Burnout” is a word we’ve been hearing more and more in the last few years, but without any clear definition.

With the news that up to 91% of people aged 18 to 34 are experiencing symptoms of burnout, it’s clear that this has become an issue that we all need to be aware of.

But how do you know if what you’re experiencing is burnout?

As a creative, many of the symptoms of burnout can also be indicative of creative resistance or executive function challenges. Often resistance tells us we can’t as a way to avoid what we’re scared of or overwhelmed by feeling unequal to. Whereas resistance might need us to find ways to push through, burnout requires the opposite—stepping back and letting go, at least for a while.

So learning to tell the difference is crucial.
