Traditional publishing vs self-publishing
I’ve had one book traditionally published, I’ve self-published one, and my second self-published venture is on its way into the world. I’m also hoping to go on submission with another project later this year that I’d like to get published through a traditional publishing house.
I see a lot of people asking about the pros and cons of self-publishing vs the traditional route, so I thought I’d share my experience.
I gave up on becoming a writer
I wanted to be a writer from the time I learned to write the alphabet. I wrote constantly as a child, and I won a few competitions.
But in my 20s, I gave it all up.

What does a sustainable creative habit look like?
In Divergent Creatives, I share the framework I use in my own creative practice. It’s a gentle container to encourage a creative habit. It’s a foundation for building a regular habit, not a formula for enforced productivity or tormenting yourself about “consistency”. It’s an anchor point to allow you to drift and then return to your centre.
You can read more about it in this post:

Creative Therapy
Unmasked Self-Portrait
We all wear masks. Everyone, no matter their neurological wiring or health or lifestyle situations, has a deep yearning to fit in and be accepted, and we often try to achieve that by trying to present ourselves as the people we think others want us to be.
This exercise helps you to recognise the hidden you.
What’s underneath this?
Many of us neurodivergent folks often find it difficult to fully understand what it is we’re feeling.
If you find yourself sitting with a tough emotion or a vague sense of discomfort, this exercise is a useful one to process what’s going on.
Bad on Purpose
I don’t think there’s an artist on this planet who doesn’t struggle with perfectionism.
The best way to stop worrying about being “good” enough is to fuck around with being bad. Really, really bad.
Prompt Box
One Tiny Moment
We charge through our days at such speed that sometimes moments of beauty or inspiration fly by without us making time to notice them.
So here’s a prompt you can use whenever you’d like to slow down and notice.

This is an essential oil blend designed to invite creative inspiration.
Invoking the Muse Ritual
Making art is a crazy ride. Some days you’re tripping over all the ideas that are falling out of your brain, then, on another day, you sit down in front of a blank piece of paper and your mind is instantly completely blank.
On those days when inspiration simply isn’t sparking, or the days when you’ve got so many competing ideas inside you that you can’t work out where to start, this ritual will help you call in your personal creative muse.
Exciting news
Book baby
My author copy of Divergent Creatives has arrived!! What me getting mildly beside myself opening the package:
Free challenge
To celebrate Divergent Creatives heading out into the world on 1st May, I’m hosting a free five-day challenge to help you build a creative habit in just 10 minutes a day.
In the book, and in this post, I talk about my Creative Fix cycle—my process for building a sustainable creative habit. For five days, starting on 18th May, I’m going to walk you through how to put this cycle into practice.
You only need 10 minutes each day. And you don’t need to show up every day. If you show up more days than you don’t, I’ll count that as a win. It’s all about building sustainable habits that work for your needs.
